Rhinoplasty & Nasal Surgery
One of the most frequently preferred operations today is aesthetic nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty. When people are not satisfied with their nose structure, they prefer to have aesthetic nose surgery. In addition, functional nose surgery is also applied for disorders in the nose structure. The purpose of functional nose surgery is to increase the quality of life of the person by enabling the nose to perform its functions.

What is Functional Nasal Surgery?
Nasal stenosis due to turbinate enlargement or septal deviation causes nasal congestion. Functional nose surgery (septoplasty or turbinate surgery) can be applied for people who have difficulties due to nasal obstruction.
In functional nose surgery, the aim is not to change the external appearance of the nose, but only to ensure that the patient can breathe more easily through the nose. The deviation in the middle of the nose, which makes breathing difficult, can be corrected with functional nose surgery. In addition, in the presence of turbinate hypertrophy, it is possible to solve this problem with the radiofrequency method.
In the first examination before the operation, the internal and external structure of the nose is evaluated. With this evaluation, it is determined whether there are septum deviation or turbinate hypertrophy problems that prevent breathing. Rarely, computed tomography of the paranasal sinus may be needed to plan surgery. Nasal examination and imaging are both very important in order to fully identify the problem and make an accurate treatment plan.
Functional nose surgery takes approximately 1 hour. There is no change in the external shape of the nose in the postoperative period, and swelling and bruising on the patient's face are not expected. At the end of the surgery, a silicone pad is usually placed in the nose and the pad is removed by the doctor on the 4th or 7th day of the surgery.

What is Rhinoplasty?
Unlike functional nose surgery, rhinoplasty is more of an aesthetic surgery. Today, most people want to have rhinoplasty just because they are not satisfied with the appearance of their noses. However, most people who are offered surgery due to nasal obstruction may request minor changes in the shape of the nose during the operation. In this respect, aesthetic nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is a frequently preferred operation today.
The rhinoplasty plan is special for each patient, because everyone's nose structure and post-operative expectations are different. Aesthetic nose surgery is carried out proportionally in accordance with the shape and structure of the face. Therefore, examination and evaluations are very important. During the surgery, the cartilage and bone structure of the nose is changed and given a new shape. The aim is to achieve the most natural result that meets the expectations as long as the existing nose allows.
One of the most preferred methods is the open rhinoplasty technique. With this technique, problematic areas and nasal septum can be seen more easily. The operation takes approximately 2-3 hours. The procedure is completed by making a small stitch between the nostrils. Stitch marks will disappear over time.
For rhinoplasty surgery, the minimum age limit for girls should be 17, and this age should be between 17 and 18 for boys. These ages have been determined in the light of scientific studies, taking into account the periods in which the development of the face and nose is completed to a large extent in men and women.
