The biggest question on the minds of patients considering rhinoplasty is usually: \u201cHow long will I be away from work?\u201d Or if you are planning to come to Istanbul for medical tourism: \u201cHow many days should I stay here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n

In this article, I am presenting the data from current clinical investigations along with application protocols.<\/p>\n

\n

When Can You Resume Your Daily Activities?<\/h3>\n\n

Functional septorhinoplasty<\/a> Studies conducted in patients undergoing, the average of daily routine activities 4 days<\/strong> it indicates that it can be restarted. Of course, this period varies from person to person \u2014 the physical intensity of the work, the scope of the surgery, and the individual healing rate are determining factors.<\/p>\n\n

It is not appropriate to give a specific date for returning to work or school; this decision should be evaluated individually with your surgeon. One thing is certain: You should avoid heavy lifting and dusty, smoky environments during the initial recovery period.<\/p>\n

\n

When Will the Swelling Go Down?<\/h3>\n\n

This is one of the topics patients are most curious about. Three-dimensional volumetric studies show that:<\/p>\n\n

    \n
  • About two-thirds of nasal swelling subsides within the first month<\/li>\n\n
  • 6th month<\/strong> \u015fi\u015fli\u011fin %95’i \u00e7\u00f6z\u00fclm\u00fc\u015f oluyor<\/li>\n\n
  • In one year<\/strong> %97,5’e ula\u015f\u0131l\u0131yor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    So do not worry if you still look swollen after the surgery \u2014 this is a completely normal process. It takes at least 1 year to see the final result.<\/p>\n\n

    Methods to Help Reduce Swelling<\/h4>\n\n

    Systematic reviews and clinical guidelines support that the following methods are effective on early swelling and bruising:<\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • Head elevation<\/li>\n\n
    • Cold application<\/li>\n\n
    • Steroid use (with surgeon's recommendation)<\/li>\n\n
    • Nasal strip<\/li>\n\n
    • Arnica and cold compresses have been found to be beneficial for swelling and bruising around the eyes in the first week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n

      When is the Splint (Cast\/Splint) Removed?<\/h3>\n\n

      General practice, splint and suture removal Within the first week<\/strong> It is done. According to my clinic, this usually happens on the 7th day.<\/p>\n\n

      Interesting research finding: Systematic reviews show that rigid splint application is not routinely necessary. Patients treated with tape alone also achieve good shape outcomes and low revision rates. In fact, a randomized study found that patients treated with tape had less periocular swelling and bruising on days 2 and 7 compared to those using rigid splints.<\/p>\n

      \n

      When can you return to sports?<\/h3>\n\n

      Clinical guidelines are clear on this: Contact sports and high-risk activities Until your surgeon approves<\/strong> It should be postponed. This period can be extended for weeks or even months.<\/p>\n\n

      For low-intensity activities like light walking, the duration can be much shorter \u2014 but this should also be at your surgeon's discretion.<\/p>\n

      \n

      What does research say about flight?<\/h3>\n\n

      To be honest: There's quite limited strong clinical data published on this. Existing research doesn't directly address flight timing.<\/p>\n\n

      My recommendation to our patients coming to Istanbul for health tourism: For the first check-up and splint removal at least 7-10 days<\/strong> planning to stay. For the return flight, your surgeon's individual assessment is essential.<\/p>\n

      Recovery after rhinoplasty is a process that requires patience but is predictable. Studies show that most patients can return to their daily lives within a few days, while swelling gradually subsides over a period of up to 1 year.<\/p>\n\n

      Every patient is different. We evaluate the details of your recovery process together during your pre-operative consultation.<\/p>\n

        Although the post-rhinoplasty recovery process varies from person to person, research points to some common trends. Most patients are able to return to their daily activities within an average of 4 days. The splint and stitches are typically removed within the first week. Most of the swelling subsides within 1 month, but it takes 1 year to see the final result. Returning to sports may take weeks or even months, depending on the surgeon\u2019s individual assessment.
